The 'official' photos of me under the signpost at John O'Groats arrived this morning and I love them! I look like a real athlete and full of confidence with my arms in the air and I can't stop myself from keep looking at them - it's a marked difference from the picture at Lands End where I'm holding onto the post as if I'm apprehensive and afraid to let go. What a difference a journey of 10 weeks' makes.

Back with the BJs full-blown tonight. No repercussions from my couple of runs yesterday so eagerly ran with Caroline, Laura and Max on a 5 miler. Doesn't take long to get the competitive blood flowing....

The Paul Seal Trust Fund - A life changing moment 30 May 2005

This is a message from my friend, Jennie Seal :

My brother, now aged 25yrs, has had his life changed forever. Please help us raise money for Paul.
He had been enjoying a year’s holiday in Australia with his friends staying mainly in Byron Bay. He was due home in July, but on May 30th, he was surfing as normal when he was taken off his board, in the curl of the wave, hit his head on the sea bottom and broke his neck. He spent nine weeks in Brisbane Hospital before flying home into Salisbury spinal unit to continue his rehabilitation, now a Tetraplegic (no significant movement from the neck down).
Meanwhile my family sold their home and found one with a ground floor extension with two bedrooms, so there was room to bring Paul home in May 2006 and have a live in carer to look after him.
This alone has been a big expense to my parents as they had just organised their lives and were thinking of retirement. Instead my mum continued to work full time as a nurse when she could really do with an extra day off each week to spend time with her son and take him out.
Carers are fine but Paul appreciates having his Dad and Mum around.
We are looking to raise enough money to pay off the mortgage they had to take out for the extra accommodation, which will then be Paul’s home - to add a bathroom for a spa bath, from which he will greatly benefit : he always loved the outdoor life, swimming and being on the beach, so a spa bath would be wonderful.
Since being home the strength in Paul’s right shoulder and upper arm has improved so he is able to feed himself which has given him some independence. He has a new companion a gorgeous brown Labradoodle puppy, Button, our first dog but she has made the family laugh again and is good company for Paul.
Good news is that they are working hard with Stem Cell research so one day spinal cords will be repaired and that would be tremendous, especially if people like Paul could walk again.
I know it’s a lot to ask and in normal circumstances I would not do so. Now however our lives have totally changed and I’d do anything to help my brother.
We hope to raise £200.000 : to us that is a huge amount but maybe if everyone gave a little we could raise it, give Paul his bath and my parents some piece of mind about finances and a little more time to spend with Paul.
Thank-you for taking the time to read this : I know there are other deserving people whose needs might be greater but we feel we must do everything and anything to give my brother Paul a good quality of life.
